A4 invoice or 80 mm receipt? A practical printing guide for Nigeria
Choose A4 or 80 mm output, check browser and printer settings, and fix clipped invoices without confusing a printed quote with a recorded sale in ReceiptPro.
An invoice can look clear on a phone and still print with a missing total, tiny text or the wrong paper width. The document layout, browser print settings and physical printer all contribute to the result. Use a short test before handing over customer documents, especially when changing from office A4 paper to an 80 mm receipt roll.
Choose the format for the information
A4 portrait provides room for a customer address, longer service descriptions, payment instructions and terms. It suits a quotation sent to an office or a document the customer wants to file. An A4 page is 210 × 297 mm; it is not simply a long receipt enlarged to fill a sheet.
An 80 mm receipt layout is narrower and useful for short counter transactions. Keep item names understandable, but avoid descriptions so long that every line wraps repeatedly. The app supports A4 and 80 mm output; a 58 mm printer is not a verified substitute for the 80 mm layout.
ReceiptPro does not supply a printer or guarantee that every Bluetooth, USB or network model works. The browser and operating system need access to a correctly configured printer. A device advertised as a POS printer is not automatically integrated with the app, and this workflow does not provide direct Bluetooth pairing or an ESC/POS command connection.
Prepare a safe test document
Use Create Invoice in Easy Mode or Invoice Generator in Standard Mode. Keep Proforma / quote selected for an illustrative test rather than recording an invented paid sale. Add a clearly fictional customer and these sample lines:
- Installation service: 2 at ₦7,500 = ₦15,000.
- Setup and testing: 1 at ₦10,000 = ₦10,000.
- Quoted total: ₦25,000.
Tax and discounts are omitted from the example. It does not acknowledge any payment. Preview the document and save the proforma if you want to reopen it later. Saving or printing a proforma does not change sales, stock, expenses or customer debt.
In the preview, select A4 portrait or 80mm receipt under Paper size. Try the logo at the left, centre or right and check that it remains small enough to leave the document details readable. Changing the preview's paper size or logo position does not create another sale.
Check the plan before opening the print dialog
Starter supports a free account and on-screen documents, with up to 50 combined catalogue items. Printing and browser PDF output require Growth or Pro. Pro adds custom colours, themes and fonts. A print option that opens an upgrade prompt is a plan restriction, not a printer-driver error.
With the appropriate paid plan, use the app's PDF or print action for the document. The browser then handles the destination and available settings. Google advises setting up a standard printer using its manufacturer's instructions, choosing a print destination and reviewing the preferred settings. Read Chrome's official printing instructions.
Select the actual printer, not an old device with a similar name. For A4, check portrait orientation and A4 paper. For receipt output, inspect the paper sizes supported by the driver and the preview. Save as PDF is a browser option where supported, not a separate cloud PDF delivery service.
Diagnose one problem at a time
If the right-hand total is cut off, compare the selected layout with the printer's configured width before changing font sizes. Check available margins and scale settings, then inspect the preview again. Avoid shrinking everything until it technically fits but the customer cannot read the amount.
If A4 output becomes unexpectedly small, look for a receipt-sized paper setting or an excessive scale reduction. If unwanted browser dates or page addresses appear, review the browser's available header and footer settings. If a logo is missing, confirm it appears in the app preview first; changing printers cannot repair an absent uploaded image.
For a long invoice, check every preview page, especially the final total and footer. Print one test and read the paper itself. A successful PDF preview does not establish that a particular thermal driver will produce identical output. Keep a note of the browser, driver and settings that worked for your equipment.
Reprint without duplicating the transaction
Once a genuine sale is recorded, reopen its existing record when another copy is needed. Do not press Record sale again merely because printing failed. A paid receipt must still represent a payment the business confirmed; neat paper does not verify a bank transfer.
Keep the document's reference visible so the customer can discuss a correction accurately. Printing is an output step, while saving a quote and recording a sale have different effects. Compare invoice and receipt meanings, review the A4 naira sample, or compare printing features by plan before creating documents in your business account.
